8000 cc :) :)

55-60 horsepowers? That's extremely big power from a 600 cc engine. :a1046: :a1035: I guess, you had to completely re-design the whole engine, Shelby. What modification did you make beside the crankshaft? (Modded cylinder head, bigger valves, racing camshaft maybe?) If you increasing power with achieving bigger rev, than this engine has to rotate at least 'bout 9000-10000/min. Am I right? :a1000:

Well, Porco, you said it right: the bigger piston, the bigger fun. :a1040: :a1065: :a1065: But I'd like to build an engine for road use, and I want it to be reliable. Spending 600 euros (only for the cylinder+piston kit) and this amount once more on the others, and getting a useless engine which blows up :b1304: on the roadside is not so funny. :b1302: So for first I just get as much information as I can. :a1011: :a1011: :a1011:
I don't know if you ever saw this page:
http://www.denior.prv.pl/
It's a polish site 'bout tuning the 126 engine, and these guys are really insane. :a1032: Polish is a nice language, unfortunately I don't understand it, but the point is clear. They made a 800 cc engine with the cylinders of the 1600 cc VW Beetle. It's a definetely redneck solution :a1031: , but I saw their engine working on the meeting in Slovakia. The guy said that he had problems with overheating. Without oil cooler the oil temperature never went under 130-140 C° :a1011:
But it really goes like hell, and it's quite reliable, but if there is a problem, with it, than that's usually a big problem. :b1401: :b1400:
This solution needs a lot of work on the crank case, the pistons, the cylinders and on the con rod.
Does the italian 800cc piston liner kit require any modification on the crank case? (I mean, strenghtening, drilling, welding, or anything?)
I'd rather prefer the italian stuff, but I'm thinking about buyng some beetle cylinders (they have a LOL :a1031: price), and building a test engine. I don't know if it worths it...

yes 55-60 cv, cylinders in aluminium, forged piston, cammes Colombo&Bariani, entry valves in titanium, valve retainer in titanuim, push rod titanium, conrods Pankl in titanium, head with two separate ducts, Dellorto carburettor from 45 mm and very much other :a1040:

Wow, that's cool! :a1036: And how did you get this parts? Did you buy them at a specialized company, or did you design 'em?
I saw on the picture, that the cylinder head is not the Panda 30 type, but it has separate inlet ports? How did you make it?
What size are the valves?
I'm working on a Panda head with 35-36 mm inlet valves, and 30 mm diameter natrium-filled exhaust valves, but they seem to big to fit in that little combustion chamber. What's the solution for this problem? :a1120:
Sorry for the too much question, but I really wanna learn everything. :a1100: :a1070: :a1011: :a1011:

Yes, Den that's a pity that this site doesn't have english version. :b1132: :b1132: It seems to contain so much information, but we don't understand it. It's like having a bottle of the finest wine, and having no opener. :b1302: I'll try to contact these polish guys, and get some furher information. :a1000:

Yep Pete ! Putting VW cylinders and pistons is not so easy. You will have to drill, weld and made others operations. But like you say, VW kit is cheap than Italian kit. But Italian kit doesn't need mecanical operation. Every parts go right on the crankcase. It would be interesting to make comparative between the cost of an engine with a kit VW makes "house", and an engine with an Italian kit. With the VW kit you have much more freedom and pleasure to make your engine like you want.

Will also know that Italian NARDI in the Sixties had already built somes engines with VW kit. They were artisanal, and they worked very ggod. In a few days, I will put online a complete file concerning the work of Mr. NARDI... :a1044:

I know which are the necessary operations, and I'm really not afraid to make them. If I'll buy the italian kit, I also will make those strenghtenings on the sides of the crank case, so machining, drilling, and welding means no problem. The problem is, that the Bug cylinder has less cooling surface compared to a Fiat cylinder (and some of them even has to be cut off), and the other is that if you enlarge the holes in the crank case, than the material near the cylinder head bolts become too thin, and it can break easily.
(On the other hand, the polish fellaz said that their oldest 800 ccm engine is now over the 40 000 km milege and that sounds good.)
I think you helped to decide, and I'm about to buy those Beetle parts. :a1047:

It only feels a bit foul to put some german parts in my italian (...erm ... well ... I mean polish :a1070: ) engine. My destination is to build a car that looks nearly like a nice and fluffy production model, but has a brutalized engine. Well, bug cylinders remain invisible under the engine cover, so... :a1065: :a1002:

OK. I hope that you will think the way I think. :a1011: :a1031: :a1000:

The another thing is that, I made up my mind, and I bought those Bug cylinders, they are already at the machinery workshop, accompanied by my cylinder head, and a block. Machining jobs on the cylinders seems to be the easier parts of this whole thing. The "black art" is the welding. Nobody really knows how to moke those strenghtenings. Well, doesn't matter, we will work it out. I plan to make a documentation with potoes, and publish it on web.

Well, you said it right. Every object can be a bottle opener in case of emergency. :a1049: :a1031:
